Pu Luong home stay tour

I got tired of some damned fool young person bitching about how my generation — the Baby Boomers — have ruined the world.
For your amusement, here is my response:
"… quit bitching about my generation — the one that ended the

Pu Luong home stay tour in Vietnam , ended the draft, passed the Civil Rights Act; the Voting Rights Act; the National Environmental Policy Act; the Clean Air Act; the Clean Water Act; the Endangered Species Act; the Toxic Substances Control Act; the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act; CERCLA; RCRA; implemented TItle IX; tried to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment; fought the Sexual Revolution so that you can do what you want with whatever consenting adult you choose with relatively few remaining repercussions; waged the Cold War without blowing the goddamned planet up and ultimately brought down the Iron Curtain; put several men on the moon — and brought them safely back to Earth; discovered the genetic code and ultimately sequenced the human genome."
We ruined EVERYTHING!

Can Baby Boomers take credit for all that? Hmmm. Someone born in ’46 -the oldest of the Baby Boomers–would have been a teenager when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon (62) and also when the Civil Rights Act passed (64) So greatly impressed and influenced by these events, but credit for them belongs to an older generation..

Oh, please. Most of this was accomplished by your elders and the rest by those of us who came just after you, the people who came of age in the 70s, after your precious 60s crashed and burned.

Sorrry, shithead. All of that was done by the Boomer generation. Try studying a bit of history before proving your ignorance, David.

David L. said ‘for your amusement’ because he was tired of someone’s bitching …
He didn’t say:
The data has been analyzed by every scientist, professor, historian, linguist and 100 % of all experts in all fields representing every person in the universe. And the accomplishments of his generation are 61.7% greater than those of those born in the next 8.4 years. …

Thank you David Lawrence, we baby boomers rock and know b what it’s like to get a well deserved butt whooping when we needed it, respect for others and fought for b all that was right.

As a Sooner (before Boomer), I’m very happy to take credit for all of that; I wish I could hear your fervent applause, but too many rock concerts made me deaf.

I was about to get upset by your comment, David, but then I carefully read it again and saw that you had, in fact, included FIFRA.

We can also lay claim to Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, Kamala Harris and Elon Musk. That’s not too bad.

I think I’m an x too – we claim some terrific dead talent, are the last ones who studied … BASIC and Paradox and looked things up at the library. I think we really revolutionized mustard and brought quiche into the mainstream.

Not my people on either end. I’m part of the forgotten sandwich–GenX. You know that white Boomers elected Drumpf, right? And that the Millenials are the ones who popularized text-based alt-language? The only thing we get can claim is a share of decent entertainers and Paul Ryan, who’s a dick.

I dunno. Not sure Boomers can take credit for 1964 Civil Rights Act. I’ll give you that college kids in the 60s & 70s applied pressure that helped stop the war. But y’all didn’t give us EPA–that was Nixon, the guy most anti-war folks voted against (wi…

Actually no, no Boomers were in power when the Vietnam War started it was run by those who are often referred to as the greatest generation.

Poor little things. Bless their hearts. They want things handed directly to them and then only whine and moan when, like every other generational reset, they find they weren’t left a perfect world.

And, how are you picking up the slack, sweetums?

I’m sure that he was just bitching about the wrongs, not the rights. :). Everyone does that, eh? I think it healthy to acknowledge the mistakes and the successes objectively. Only complaining or whatabouting how one generation affects the next isn’t very helpful, if at all.

It was in a thread where he and other “liberals” were thrashing Hillary Clinton. You know, she wasn’t pure enough to be the Democratic nominee — in their eyes, at least. :/

You designed our curriculums. You were our teachers and professors – intellectually, you played a huge role in shaping who we are. Kind of silly for us to hate you.

Yes. You taught us to be skeptics. You brought us to a point where we can legalize cannabis.

There’s a bunch of stuff the 1% types are doing, and they happen to be disproportionately Boomers. Conservatives tend to be boomers – that’s just a pattern; as people get older, they become more conservative. That’s not your fault. We all have to fight them.

Chris Brodie LOL. Surely you can do better than 3 year old Pew data, which, btw, do not demonstrate Jane’s contention that ‘most’ people become more conservative as they age. Last time I checked my data science writing handbook, 33% does not equate to …

Liz Scherer lay off the kid. She’s exactly right. As glad as I am to see all you liberal Boomers in the thread, you’re the exception, not the rule.

Jane… as for a “disproportionate” number of the 1% being Boomers, that has a pretty logical explanation. The Boomers have lived most of their productive earning years already and therefore have higher net worth. Younger generations are still in their early earning years and often faced with families and other responsibilities that limit their ability to save.

Jane that’s funny. I have no issue with that nor with discussing how old I am- 56. The reason that I ask is that it’s difficult in one’s 20s or 30s not to believe that you know everything. The older you become, the more you know and the less you unders…

“As people get older, they become more conservative.” WTF is this statement? I am a tailgater/boomer, i.e. tail-end. I don’t know one person in my inner or outer circles who has become more conservative as they’ve gotten older. In fact, that opposite is true: with age comes wisdom, with wisdom comes growth and understanding.

That’s awesome. I’m an early millennial and I have, too. The more I learn, the more I see that we need social mechanisms in place. That capitalism is flawed – it’s by no means a perfect algorithm for a functioning society.
